Join us for the 7th Annual
Finger Lakes Works With Their Hands!
held in Seneca Falls on Thursday, October 4, 2012

Our Annual Finger Lakes Works…with their hands! Skilled Trades and Advanced Manufacturing career awareness event. Every year several hundred students and school chaperones from all area high schools and BOCES districts attend this exciting event. More than 35 businesses, trade unions, colleges and organizations will provide hands on demonstrations and activities for the students including welding, a nail driving competition, bricklaying, electrical, the actual operation of heavy equipment and much MORE!

In addition to Careers in Construction, students learn about Advanced Manufacturing and Alternative Energy. Demonstrations on the importance of working safely in a construction environment will also be included in the day. Students participate in a variety of Skilled Trades challenges for the opportunity to win one of 5 $100 US Savings Bonds. Both the exhibitors and the students have always indicated that this is a great way to learn more about career and educational opportunities in our Finger Lakes area.

Hal Smith, committee chair for the event and president of Halco, feels that the students gain a lot from this experience. One exhibitor stated "Helping students learn more about a variety of careers helps all our businesses in the end."

This year’s Finger Lakes Works…with their hands! is made possible by a grant provided by the NYS Department of Transportation Careers in Construction program and a generous sponsorship from the Seneca Falls Savings Bank.
