Career Readiness Credential for Employers

The gap between the skills required for most jobs and the skills of the workforce is having a significant impact on productivity and revenue across all businesses and industries. Employers need reliable ways to measure foundational skills to ensure they are hiring the most qualified, trainable candidates.
Department of Labor Website Update
A new button has been added to the DOL website homepage Employers Post your Jobs with Us NYS Job Bank. This link brings you to a web page explaining a new requirement for all contractors receiving stimulus funds to post their jobs on the NYS Job Bank. It also outlines alternatives for how to post jobs. Included are fax, fillable form, and phone options that will ultimately require staff data entry. Please alert staff as needed to this new info on the web page. Just a heads up that this might increase traffic and employer inquiries. The Governor is going to soon be issuing a press release about this as well.

Changes to America's Job Exchange
Employers with a mailing address in New York State who register and log in to the national America's Job Exchange site will be charged a $49.00 fee per job posting. Any New York State employer who wishes to avoid the fee must register here. For this purpose, if the employer is already registered on the national site - he or she must re-register on the NYS site. Please remember that all employers that register with NYSAJE are required to have an active Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) obtained through the IRS and a New York State Employer Identification Number (SEIN) obtained through NYSDOL-Registration.
New York State Department of Labor's labor market information for the state provides statistics from wages to projections to the latest job figures. The Department of Labor has the most current and accurate labor market information available.
CALLING ALL EMPLOYERS!! Business Partnership and Speaker's Bureau
Looking for a way to let our young people know about what you do? Interested in hiring a teacher for the summer? Now is the opportunity to register for the Business Partnership and Speaker's Bureau. In an effort to improve the business-education partnership, the Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board is compiling a list of employers who are interested in speaking to students about career opportunities in their respective field, offering business tours, hiring youth, or hosting a teacher intern for vacation or summer break. It's simple and a great way to help prepare our young people for jobs in their own community and assist the teachers in finding out what local employers are looking for. The role of the WIB is to compile the list and make the connection between the employer and the school representative. The partnership is further developed between the educator and employer, depending on the need. By registering, there is no guarantee that you will be asked to participate, however, the more opportunities offered, the more the partnership is strengthened. To participate call the WIB office at 315.789.3131 or toll free at 1-877-6 NEWJOB with any questions.
