GENEVA, NEW YORK – The Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board (FL WIB) announced today that Local 840 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), is October’s “Partner of the Month” recognizing the company’s efforts to build strong community partnerships along with their continuing contributions to the local economy.
Located in Geneva, New York Local 840 IBEW was founded in 1918 and provides the highest skilled, safest and best trained electricians in the industry. IBEW’s mission is to organize all electricians in the industry into local unions and to improve the social and economic standing of all workers in our region. They currently represent over 130 electricians in the Finger Lakes region.
IBEW’s Business Manager and FLWIB member Mike Davis serves as Chair of the agency’s “Finger Lakes Work With Their Hands” program which has enabled thousands of area high school students to experience firsthand, the careers in the skilled-trades industry. Each October hundreds of high school students participate in the event where they learn about the opportunities that exist in the Skilled Trades. This October marks the eleventh year the event has taken place.
