Building the Pipeline for our Regional Advanced Manufacturing Sector

To succeed, manufacturers need a skilled workforce, strong business model, leadership and a thriving community. In the Rochester region, poverty and unemployment are increasing. It has become a challenge to find qualified workers. Now is the time to unite and pledge to expand our workforce and long-term prosperity as business leaders in the community.

Make the 5% Pledge!

We are asking you to pledge 5% of your current workforce to the future. That means that for every 100 employees in your organization, you will strive to provide five temporary positions for interns, high school students, and/or the long-term unemployed as a method of exposing them to the manufacturing culture through experience. In turn, these workers will gain valuable skills and experience to guide them as they become the workforce of tomorrow.

Khris Field accepts the Business of the Month certificate.

Located in Waterloo, NY, Geneva Homes has been building quality affordable manufactured and modular homes in the Finger Lakes areas for over 60 years.  Family owned and operated since 1965, owners Jeff & Kathy Padlick and Kassandra & Khris Padlick Field are always available to assist their customers. In addition to providing customers with superior special order products for manufactured homes, Geneva Homes also provides personalized service and support from their certified home sales and installation team.

To help Geneva Homes develop their workforce they have partnered with the Business Services Team at Finger Lakes Works. Finger Lakes Works staff have helped Geneva Homes find workers through the posting and matching services available through the New York State Job Bank. Additionally, to help with training, Geneva Homes has used the On the Job Training (OJT) program customized to meet both the requirements of the employer and the training needs of the employee.  The OJT reimburses the employer for extraordinary training while providing the employee with the skills needed to accomplish the job.

”Working with small business is at the heart of what we do,” said Karen Springmeier, Executive Director, Finger Lakes WIB Inc. “We look forward to continuing our work with Geneva Homes as they continue to grow and contribute to our local economy.”
