Our July 2015 Community Partner of the Month is…

ONTARIO COUNTY OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT!!!

GENEVA, NEW YORK – The Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board Inc. (FLWIB) announced today that Ontario County Office of Economic Development (OCOED) is July’s “Community Partner of the Month,” recognizing the agency’s efforts in working collaboratively with Finger Lakes WIB to address economic and workforce issues impacting the region.

The Ontario County Office of Economic Development helps companies, not-for-profits and entrepreneurs create wealth and grow while retaining and growing jobs in Ontario County.  Through the provision of services and products that include financing, business retention and expansion outreach, technical support and advocacy, OCOED promotes technology-led economic development resulting in the attraction and growth of manufacturing and producer service companies in a wide array of business sectors, from alternative energy to food and beverage.

A member of the FLWIB since its inception in 2000, OCOED Director, Mike Manikowski is the current public sector Vice Chair and chair of the Governance Committee.  His leadership on the board has proven to be instrumental as the FLWIB developed its job-driven business services for companies throughout the area.  Mike is a strong advocate for the services provided and often refers companies in need of workforce development programs.

Additionally OCOED has been a long time sponsor of career exploration activities and events including the annual “Finger Lakes Works…with their hands!” Event and the “Serving Community Healthcare in the Finger Lakes” Career Day.  These programs expose area high school students to the careers that exist in the area while developing a “pipeline” of future talent.  OCOED also works with the Ontario County Workforce Development office and provides funding for On-the-Job Training for Ontario County businesses and residents.

OCOED is also a founding member and supporter of the Finger Lakes Advanced Manufacturers’ Enterprise (FAME).  This group of manufacturers is focused on the development of a strong workforce in Advanced Manufacturing.

“We are very fortunate to have a partner like Ontario County Office of Economic Development and a leader like Mike who recognize the need to develop a strong workforce and works with us to make it happen.”  said Karen Springmeier, Executive Director, Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board.  “We look forward to continued collaboration to address issues impacting workforce development and better prepare our emerging workforce for the demand occupations in the Finger Lakes region.”
